Market Report – January 24, 2022

Sprouting Cauliflower has hit a gap at the market (and the commercial stuff from manns, caulini, has also been short).  I am hoping everyones fields from the cold who lost stuff will start to have product again this week.  Mainly weiser to start, but I do expect Fresno Evergreens to have another field in the next couple of weeks as well.

Citrus season is in full swing, while persimmon season is coming to a close.  We will find out Monday if we will be able to get another round from Briar Patch as she said they are close to finished.  The fruit we have been getting is much smaller.

Lots of Chicories available (coraline is available again in the warehouse this year after a near 2 year gap from the California Endive Growers due to bad seeds)

Weiser Farms has grown Spanish Salsify again this year (he grew it about 2 years ago as well) with a little push on alex from myself and a few other chefs.  It comes with tops on as well; however, they are only really good for frying up.  I tried the tops a couple of days ago and they were a bit tasteless and fibrous without frying or cooking down.  This is the first full week of availability

And last but not least of all

HARRYS BERRIES wholesale returns this week.  Please place orders early.  Currently only Gaviotas available.  8×1# cases or by the #
