SUSTAINABILITY

Mission Statement

Nature’s Produce strongly believes in taking care of our Earth and its natural resources. Being one of the largest direct receivers & handlers of fresh produce in Southern California, it’s our honor & responsibility to work toward setting the standard of protecting our environment. We strive to be proactive & ensure that our company, as well as our customer base, is helping reduce our generation’s carbon footprint.

Some of our key environmental policy practices:

  • Our new state of the art facility is equipped with energy efficient automatic lighting as well as automatic doors that help maintain stable temperatures reducing wasted energy. Our fully refrigerated area of our facility is encapsulated with insulated paneling and dock shelters seal the open doors into refrigerated vehicles to minimize energy loss.
  • Water Clarifies are installed for all waste water which exits our facility.
  • We have an organic waste program set with Waste Management which is separately hauled away and used for applications such as compost.
  • Our fleet meets the most current California State ARB emissions standards. They are also smaller & more fuel efficient to reduce harmful emissions.
  • We have an in-house cardboard compactor to recycle all approved boxes, shipping materials, office supplies & packing material to minimize waste.
  • Avoid the usage of unnecessary chemicals and cleaning agents when alternative environmental friendly products are available.
  • We offer a full pallet and milk carton exchange program with our customers. We choose reconditioned pallets over the use of new ones. Used pallets can easily re-enter the supply pool and perform just as efficiently as brand new pallets. Reconditioned wood pallets are a more environmentally-friendly option than creating new pallets for every shipment.
  • We donate the excess sorted product to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Our goals are to eliminate wasteful sorting & also to contribute to the fight against hunger.
  • We source and support local farmers and source locally whenever possible. In addition, we educate our customers about seasonality to maximize this program’s effectiveness

GOING GREEN

Using and marketing locally grown produce in order to alleviate the detrimental effects of mass transportation.

95% of our Fruits and Vegetables are California grown during the summer months.

40% of our fruits and vegetables are still grown in the California regions during the winter.

We visit the world famous Farmer’s Markets in California weekly. Many Certified Organic growers participate in a partnership allocating certain amounts of their product specifically for our company.

We recently purchased new fleet vehicles which are smaller and more fuel efficient to reduce harmful emissions. Our trucks and warehouse are insulated and reinforced to conserve energy and refrigeration, keeping your produce fresh and environmentally friendly. Routes have also been consolidated and mileage minimized.

Many of our farms use advanced irrigation systems in addition to natural rainfall to most effectively utilize our water and reduce unnecessary waste. Many of our fields are using compost to fertilize their soils. This compost provides natural nutrients for future harvests in order to prevent exhaustion of fertile lands. This will ultimately reduce desertification.

Nature’s Produce is also recycling all boxes, pallets, shipping, office supplies and packing material to maximize the usage of our resources.

We use non-harmful chemicals & cleaning agents when available for sanitary practices.

While Nature’s Produce focuses on repacking & choosing only the finest product, with highest yield amounts, we donate the excess sorted product to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Our goals are to eliminate wasteful sorting & also to contribute to the fight against hunger.
