MARKET REPORT – May 5, 2024

Summer fruits are slowly appearing!

Murray farms has begun their cherry season.  We should start to see the volume pick up in another week and the price will drop when we can buy bulk boxes.  Until then it will only be sold in a 1/2pt flats (12bskts approx. 6#).  They are hoping for some non organic Arvin glen or early arvins this coming week.  They had some organic pie cherries this past week as well.

On the bright side we are in full cherry season finally!  Murray is bringing more varieties every day and is now offering bulk discounts.  With that we will start carrying his red cherries in 1# bags beginning Thursday in limited quantities.

He also began both white and Pakistan mulberries.  As for other stonefruit he had some very small white peaches (just a few baskets of thinnings) and green ume plums for preserving.

Scott Farms made an early showing as well with tree thinnings.  Everything was very small, sour , and dry to the mouth feel.  The white peaches were massively bruised and over ripe.  This fruit is not worth anyones time in my opinion, and we will not be stocking anything until the fruit is worth it.

Please everyone be patient on peaches et al for a couple of more weeks.  Reiger farms will return and all of the fruit in general should be hitting better sizing and sugar levels by then.

This week will see Wong at its last appearance until July when they return with the ultimate mangoes!  This usually means we have a month long gap on real nice cherry tomatoes.  I will report back next week with Munak Ranches expected return to market this summer.

Harry’s Berries now has their small Mares du bois strawberries along with their usual Gaviotas

We are now in full on strawberry season with all the farms coming with product in general.

Tamai has both Albion and Gaviota’s

2 Peas in a pod has Montereys
