General Information
Orchids exude an aromatic scent that can vary from subtly sweet and grass like to rich vanilla and spice depending upon type. This purple variety has a delicate floral scent. Its petals are dark to bright purple on the petal edge and transition to lighter shades of purple and eventually white approaching the center of the flower. They have the classic bilaterally symmetrical orchid shape and are attached to a strong creamy white stem.
History
Orchids were long believed to have a relatively recent origin but DNA from fossil findings has proved otherwise. Orchids can now be traced back over 100 million years to the time of the dinosaurs. Since this time the orchid family has undergone much evolution and expansion and currently can be found growing in nearly every corner of the world except for Antarctica.
